Using the ME Web page counter

We have installed a web page counter for use with your home pages. This counter allows you to place a fancy odometer style access count on any of your web pages.

There are two things which must be done to set up a counter for your page.

Choose a unique name for your counter data file. All the counter data files are stored in a single directory, so you need to be careful when choosing a name so you don't accidentally choose a name that is already in use. I would recommend using file names of the form loginname_pagename.dat. If I wanted a counter for my own home page I would choose a file name such as curt_home.dat. You will need one data file created for each web page you would like to track.
Note: This system requires that everyone play nice. If we discover that there are problems with this setup, we may have to disable automatic creation of counter files and force everyone to go through MEnet to get a counter file created.
Include the following piece of html code somewhere in the body of your web page:

```
where:
FILENAME is replaced with the name of the file which stores counts for this page.
FONT is the name of the font to use.

There are many other fonts available which we have not installed. For a complete list of all the fonts along with samples, see http://www.digitmania.holowww.com. If you ask real nice we will probably be willing to install a few additional fonts.
