MEnet Support Services
Normal Problem Support
For normal support requests, please send e-mail to
menet@me.umn.edu or call 626-9800.
The MEnet support staff checks the menet@me.umn.edu e-mail frequently, even in off hours, so
e-mail is usually the best way to obtain support.
Off Hours Support
MEnet does not have the resources to guarantee off hours support. However,
we will do what we can to keep our servers and networks up and running.
Any off hours support will be provided on our own time and out of the
goodness of our hearts. Please only disturb us with real
emergencies, and use this service sparingly.
As stated before, the MEnet support staff checks the menet@me.umn.edu e-mail frequently,
even in off hours, so e-mail is usually the best way to obtain off hours
support.
For real emergencies such as the network or a server being
down you can try contacting:
Again, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to respond to off hours
support problems.
Network Support
MEnet is responsible for maintaining networking services up to the
desktop for the ME building.
Software Installation
MEnet provides software installation services for both commercial and
free software packages. Click here for a list of some of our
installed packages. If your machine is in a research
lab see: Research support services
- Commercial: We will install a commercial package
which you have purchased and make sure it is configured and runnable.
We usually have no experience running these packages and therefore,
cannot provide application level support for these packages. Also note
that we will not install software in ME10 or ME472 that is not licensed
in such a way that it can be installed on all the machines.
- Free: MEnet has built and installed many of the
popular free software packages available. If we have missed a
package which you need, let us know and we will look into building
and installing it.
Rule of Thumb
If you are wondering whether or not MEnet provides a certain service,
remember that MEnet does not have any of its own budget numbers. If you
require a service that has an associated cost and you are willing
to cover that cost, see Research support services
Having said that, if you do see something that is broken,
please let us know. We cannot fix a problem we don't
know about!
