The effects of tool shape (corner radius) and depth of cut and feed rate in turning on finished surface shape are shown in this exercise. The view is that of an instantaneous snapshot looking down on a lathe turning operation. The timing of successive snapshots is once every workpiece revolution and so the advance of the cutting tool in each workpiece revolution is shown. For feed rate in terms of mm/rev or in/rev the tool advance per revolution is numerically equal to the feed rate.
