- August 1, 2009 - The Center for Advanced Solar Photophysics, a DOE-funded Energy Frontier Research Center, opened at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Kortshagen group is one of seven member groups.
- July 23, 2009 - Chin-Yi Liu and Uwe Kortshagen won a Best Paper Award at the ASME Summer Heat Transfer Conference for their paper on nanocrystal-polymer hybrid solar cells.
- June 29, 2009 - Zak Holman was awarded the 2009 University of Minnesota Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship.
